How To Make Money From Facebook Groups: In-Depth Guide

Facebook is undoubtedly the biggest social media marketing platform or a social networking website/app that has been dominating the whole market for years.

As of now, there are over 2.7 billion Facebook users all across the world, and in the United States alone, the number of users is expected to reach 237.8 million by the year 2025.

I think that’s a huge number of people using Facebook and there’s a huge potential in terms of making money if you utilize the correct strategies.

With that being said, in this guide, I’m going to share with you how to make money with Facebook groups the right way.

Facebook groups are often underestimated but if you follow the right strategies, there’s a whole lot of money to be made for the better.

So, let’s close the introduction and actually learn to make some money using Facebook groups strategically, step-by-step.

Before we start, let me quickly explain to you what Facebook groups are and why they are a good source for making money on the internet…

What Are Facebook Groups?

As the name itself suggests, Facebook groups are online spaces where a group of people interested in a certain topic or industry builds a community to share ideas, thoughts, or initiate and participate in mutually appealed conversations.

These groups can be about anything and everything and can have little to no members at all or have millions and millions of people exchanging ideas and sharing resources.

Why Are FB Groups Good To Generate Income?

As I said earlier, Facebook groups are often underestimated when it comes to making money using the internet or social media…but the truth is, they are one of the best as well as the biggest sources of revenue for entrepreneurs and solopreneurs.

The reason why FB groups perform really well in terms of revenue generation is that they include thousands or even hundreds of thousands who can trust each other.

Trust is the biggest variable in marketing and sales. If you build trust with someone, they are more likely to buy the products or services you recommend.

This is the single best reason why Facebook groups lead to high conversions for businesses, marketing professionals, entrepreneurs, and individuals in general.

As a matter of fact, that’s the reason why you find the big guys in the industry managing ‘private Facebook groups’. Hope that helped you understand everything. Now, let’s learn how to earn money with FB groups step-by-step.

Step 1: Choose A Niche For Your Facebook Group

The first step you need to take to begin the process is to choose a niche for your Facebook group. If you are not aware of what a niche means, it is referred to as a topic that you will be creating the group about.

For example, you can start a Facebook group about Keto diet, Freelance writing, marketing, food, physical fitness, relationships, or thousands of other topics that have enough audience.

You can basically create a blog on everything but I would recommend you stick to the top three evergreen niches: health, wealth, and relationships.

Best niches for facebook groups

These are the niches that have the highest potential both in terms of money and audience. In other businesses such as blogging or YouTube marketing, you try to go as narrow as possible…which by the way, you can do on Facebook as well.

But generally, Facebook groups are all about quality and if you create a group that shares rich content and includes engaged users, you can be successful in any niche regardless of it being big or small.

So, pick a niche that you would be interested in but at the same time, a niche that has enough interested people around.

For example, you can create a group about mangos but you won’t find any driven audience for the same. On the other hand, if you pick something like the paleo diet, there would be a lot of people interested in that.

Here’s an example of a group about paleo diet with thousands of members.

FB group example about Paleo diet

Hence, you need to be careful with choosing the niche for your group because you are going to want to play the long-term game.

Step 2: Create And Optimize The Group

Once you have decided the topic or the niche, the next obvious step you are going to take is to create the group and get started with the overall process.

Although creating a group is damn easy but as I said it’s going to be a step-by-step guide, I’m going to share everything from the smallest bits and pieces to the advanced steps of promotion and monetization.

So, firstly, you have to head over to Facebook and log in to your account. When you do that, you will find a ‘groups’ section on the left. The navigation maybe different on small devices.

Click on the link and you will see a page like the screenshot I have put down below.

Here, you will see a bunch of group suggestions as well as a list of groups you have already joined. Well, that’s not what we have to focus on, we are here to create a FB group, right?

Therefore, to create the group, an option to create a new group will be visible to you, simply click on it and a dialog box will appear in front of you where you can proceed further with the process.

The next action you will need to take is to name the group, choose the privacy setting and continue to further steps. Make sure that your name should maintain congruency with the topic or niche of your group.

Also, keep in mind that you make the group private to attract quality members.

Once you click the ‘create’ button, you will have to upload a great cover photo that makes people interested in knowing more about the group Here’s a good example of that.

After that, write a description that appeals to people (for example, benefits of joining the group, some interesting marketing lines that get people excited, etc.).

Also, the group description should be perfectly optimized in the following ways:

  1. You should include keywords related to your niche in the description
  2. The description should be long enough to give a reason to people for joining the group
  3. Include Call To Actions for joining the group
  4. Tell people why your group is different from other ones in the space
  5. The text should not be in huge paragraphs but instead, short lines

A mini-congratulations! You have successfully created and optimized your FB group. Let’s drive our Ferrari to the next tracks now.

Step 3: Create The First Few Initial Posts

The third step is quite simple and straightforward. You will have to create some initial posts to build reputation and relevance, and how people that it is an active group, not just another dummy group.

Before you get members, you should be a great admin and learn everything about managing the group as well as post extremely helpful resources that people won’t find in other groups.

I’m not talking about posting hundreds and hundreds of posts without having members in a group…rather, it’s about creating the first few posts just like you would while building a niche blog.

Step 4: Build & Market The Group

Now that you have done all the basic work, it’s time to build the group and attract members to your group.

There are a lot of things you can do to grow and market a Facebook group such as:

  • Invite your Facebook friends to support you
  • Cross-promote groups
  • Ask your email subscribers to join the group
  • Give freebies to people
  • Be a guest on other people’s podcasts
  • Do interviews with small content creators
  • Use other social media platforms to add new members
  • Run cold advertisements on Facebook
  • Start a blog within the niche and attract new people

1. Invite Facebook Friends To Join

The first thing you can do to add new members to your brand new group is – invite your friends by clicking the big ‘Invite’ button when you are viewing the group as an admin.

Select the friends you think would be interested in the topic and send a simple invitation to them as a request to join your group.

Not all of them will join the group but it will give the initial boost to the group to show up in the search results whenever somebody searches the topic with an intention of joining an active group.

2. Cross Promote Each Other’s Groups

The second method you can use to grow your Facebook group is to cross-promote each other’s groups.

What I mean by this is you can reach out to other small groups within your space and ask them to promote your group to their audience and vice versa.

Just like people promote each other’s Instagram pages, Facebook pages, and YouTube channels, you would do the same with your Facebook groups.

This might not bring thousands and thousands of people to the group but it will definitely bring highly targeted members that will add up to thousands with time.

3. Ask Your Email Subscribers To Join

This method is only for people who have a small email list. You can ask your email subscribers to join the group and you will be surprised to see how many people will be interested in supporting the group.

Statistics say that email list subscribers are the most loyal fans you could ever get. If you nurture the list properly, they will be willing to support you thought your entire business life.

Hence, you can promote your FB group to the list and ask people to join. It doesn’t matter whether you have a list of 500 email subscribers, 1000 email subscribers, or 10000+ email subscribers…if you ask them to join, you will see new members.

By the way, if you are interested in learning new ways of list building, consider checking out this guide.

4. Give Freebies To Get People Intrigued

Giving freebies is one of the best strategies to attract new members to a Facebook group. If you don’t know what a freebie is, it’s something you would give away for free to people taking a certain action (like joining a group, subscribing to an email list, etc.).

So, you can give away a free guide, eBook, course, or any other helpful resource to people for free and in return, ask them to join the Facebook group.

This is an evergreen strategy that works in every online marketing business model out there. You can talk about the freebie in your group’s description to make people interested in becoming a member.

5. Promote The Group On Other People’s Podcasts

Another cool strategy to draw new members to your group is being a guest on other people’s podcasts and ask their audience to check out and join your active group for helpful resources.

The process is simple. You are going to want to have a look at some medium-sized podcasts within your space, check out the social profiles of the hosts, and message them to be a guest on their podcast to share your expertise or views with their audience.

This is a great way to add targeted people to your group without having to spend any money.

6. Do Interviews With Small Content Creators

Another way to give a little boost to your Facebook group is by doing interviews with small content creators on various marketing platforms such as YouTube, news websites, Instagram, LinkedIn, and many others, and ask their audience to join your group.

This will only work if you build relationships with the content creators and convince them by letting them know the benefits of doing interviews with you.

7. Utilize Other Social Media Platforms To Add Members

You can also use the power of other social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Twitch, Quora, Tumblr, and Whatsapp to add new members to your group.

If I talk about myself, I have over 300 followers on Twitter, over 5000 followers on LinkedIn, a couple of hundred followers of Quora, and a couple of hundred contacts on Whatsapp as well. I can ask all those people to join my group and support it if I think they will be relevant to the topic and surely add a couple of hundred new members for free.

This might not be a big differentiator but it will definitely give the initial push and let Facebook know that people are joining your group so that it can rank your group in the top search results for organic growth.

8. Run Cold Advertisements On Facebook

Another way you can build, grow, and market your Facebook group is by running paid advertisements on Facebook.

You can simply create an engaging post that includes a CTA to join your group and boost the post for it to reach new people and entice new people.

If you wish to have full control, you can also run engagement campaigns to get better results.

Here’s a video for you from Kody that teaches everything you will ever need to know about engagement campaigns.

You can utilize the knowledge to grow your Facebook group via paid ads. Since you are only asking people to join a group, you will notice a large number of people join the group with this strategy.

9. Start A Blog To Attract New Audience

You can also start a blog, create content on a consistent basis, grow it to a couple of thousand visitors every month and then promote your Facebook group to the audience.

Generally, you will see anywhere from 1-3% of people will be interested in joining the group. This number can drastically vary but you can expect one to three percent of people to join the group.

What this means is that if you get 10000 visitors a month to your blog, you can see anywhere from 100-300 (more or less) new members coming to. your Facebook group every month on a consistent basis.

The same thing can happen with a YouTube channel, Instagram page, or LinkedIn account (but social media accounts want regular content).

Other than this, you can also pay influencers to promote your Facebook group if you want to see some good and fast results.

Step 5: Share Enough Non-Promotional Content

Once you have a couple thousand members in your group, you will have to share enough non-promotional content for them to trust you and the community.

Often people get way too much excited and start pushing out promotional stuff that make people lost the trust and your group starts becoming inactive over time.

You definitely don’t want that, right? Also, you want to make the most out of the group that you worked so hard for, correct? Hence, you should have a little bit of patience and wait until you feel that the audience trusts you and each other.

Step 5: Start Making Money From The Group

Once you feel everything is going in the right direction, it’s time to start making money from the Facebook group.

This is the most awaited and exciting part of the journey. We have created a fantastic group that has thousands of active members in it, it’s time to monetize and there are a couple of ways to do that.

Some of the best ways to make money from a Facebook group are as follows:

  • Promote affiliate products to earn commissions
  • Do sponsor posts for money
  • Sell your own physical or digital products
  • Sell the group to someone else
  • Drive traffic to your websites and earn from ads

These are the best ways of monetization for a Facebook group. Let’s have a look at each of them in detail.

1. Promoting Affiliate Offers For Commissions

This is the best and most popular way to make money from a Facebook group. For those of you who don’t know what promoting affiliate offers means, it’s a practice where you promote other people’s products to your audience and whenever someone clicks your affiliate link and makes a purchase, you earn a commission for that.

My favorite strategy to make money from FB groups with affiliate marketing is promoting ClickBank products.

ClickBank is one of the biggest affiliate marketplaces for promoting physical and digital products (well, mainly for digital products).

So, first of all, you are going to want to create a ClickBank account if you don’t have one already. To do so, simply head over to ClickBank’s official website (https://clickbank.com) and signup as an affiliate.

By the way, check out this guide to learn more about ClickBank affiliate marketing.

Once you complete the signup process, head over to the ‘marketplace’ from the top navigation menu and check for products in your category/niche.

There are thousands of good and bad products available on ClickBank. You have to sort the products by gravity and you will see a list of hundreds of products that offers tens to hundreds of dollars in commission for a single sale.

For example, this product offers a 58 dollar commission per sale it seems like a good product that my audience would be interested in.

To promote this product, I can simply click on the ‘Promote’ button and a hoplink generator (affiliate link generator) will appear in front of me as shown below where I can get my affiliate link and promote it to my audience.

This hoplink can be shared on Facebook and whenever someone clicks it and buys the product, a commission will be earned. Though make sure you use URL shorteners such as bit.ly because Facebook is strict with direct affiliate links.

Here’s an example of how you can promote links using a Facebook group to earn consistent commissions.

Once you have a quality audience, you won’t find any difficulties in promoting products and making sales every single day.

Although I’m not comfortable sharing my earnings with you…I can show you how I get consistent visitors to my ClickBank affiliate links that convert into sales on a consistent basis.

This is a great way to earn money from your Facebook group. Now, let’s discuss some other ways of doing the same.

2. Doing Sponsor Posts

Another great way to generate income for a Facebook group is by doing sponsor posts. Sponsor posts are nothing new. They have been around for years and years.

Once you have a big group, you will automatically start receiving tons of sponsor post requests that offer you money for posting their content in your group for a certain period of time.

Just like people do sponsor posts using Facebook pages, Instagram pages, and blogs, you can do the same with groups and charge a fee for doing that.

Depending upon the size of your group, you can charge anywhere from $30/post to $300/post or more.

3. Sell Your Own Products/Services

If you want to keep all the money and want to have full control over your business, selling. your own products or services to the group’s audience is the best way possible to generate income.

All you have to do is create a physical or digital product that solves a certain problem for people, or sell a service that people would need to thrive in the industry and charge whatever the hell you want for selling those.

There are hundreds of people doing this and making substantial amounts of money, you can be one of them if you wish to.

4. Sell Your Group To Someone Else

Another way you can make money is by selling a group to someone else. Facebook doesn’t actually allow people to buy and sell groups but if you do everything the right way without leaving a trace behind, you can make a hell of a lot of money from that.

A Facebook group with a couple thousand active members can easily be sold for thousands of dollars and a lot of people/marketers will be interested in buying groups for the better.

If you are not good at affiliate marketing, creating products, or selling services, you can use this strategy to earn an income online. Though I would recommend you learn the skills because a group has a lot of potential.

5. Drive Traffic To Blogs & Earn From Ads

Another strategy that could be used to earn money from Facebook groups is that you can drive traffic to your blogs/websites and earn money from display ads.

There’s no rocket science involved in the process. All you have to do is place ads on. the website and drive extra visitors to your blog consistently to earn revenue for life.

Also, you can try affiliate marketing and selling digital products or physical products on the blog itself to monetize the traffic well.

Step 6: Keep Growing The Group

The sixth step you will need to take after setting up everything is to keep the momentum going, add new and fresh content as well as members to the group on a consistent basis, learn new ways of monetization, and repeat the process to take your earnings and profits to new heights.

Yes, that’s it! I’m not going to write a five-hundred-word motivational closing here, it’s all about you and the hustle now.

In Conclusion

As you can see, Facebook groups have a huge potential when it comes to making money on social media (especially on Facebook). If you follow the right strategies and build a strong community of like-minded people, it can results in huge profits over time.

I hope you learned something new in this guide about generating income using Facebook groups. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to jump into the comments section down below and let the community know what you think.
