How To Do Affiliate Marketing On TikTok (& Make $$$ Fast!)

TikTok has now become the norm now. It’s now turned into an everyday content consumption platform for people and an established marketing channel for companies as well as marketers.

The one thing that you require to make money with affiliate marketing is the audience…and TikTok has it!

I personally tried promoting affiliate products or tried affiliate marketing on TikTok and you can see the results down below:

tiktok affiliate marketing results

That’s pretty impressive, considering the fact that I was a completely new player in the game and still managed to earn decent affiliate commissions!

With that being said, in this post, you are going to learn everything about TikTok affiliate marketing so that you can get started and start earning the income that you deserve

Before we get to the process, I’ll answer a common question that is asked by hundreds of people if not thousands:

Can You Do Affiliate Marketing On TikTok?

There is a lot of misconception regarding whether or not affiliate marketing on TikTok is allowed. Well, you won’t have to worry about it from now because here is your answer:

Affiliate marketing is fully allowed on TikTok. People are free to use the platform for promoting affiliate products to earn affiliate commissions. You just have to be sure that all the products you promote are trustworthy.

It happens a lot of times that just because a niche is high-paying, beginner affiliate marketers go crazy about it and the platform ends up banning the websites.

Remember how Facebook banned ClickBank links because people weren’t caring about what the end-user is going to get after clicking the links and purchasing the fake products?

I hope you got what I tried to convey here. You just have come across as a helping individual in the community and everything will work just fine.

How To Start Affiliate Marketing On TikTok

Now that you know what it is that you will have to keep in mind while doing affiliate marketing on TikTok, let’s learn how to actually get started on the platform and become a successful affiliate:

So, here are the things you will have to consider or steps you will need to take to be able to get started with TikTok affiliate marketing:

  • Choose A Niche That Performs Well On TikTok
  • Create A Profile & Optimize It
  • Analyze Other Successful Accounts
  • Create A Content Strategy For Optimum Results
  • Find Relevent Affiliate Programs To Join
  • Create Landing Pages
  • Start Including CTAs In Content
  • Post Consistently
  • Be Patient
  • Avoid Creating Multiple Accounts

1. Choose A Niche That Performs Well On TikTok

There is a saying that goes in the world of internet marketing…and it is – the riches are in the niches!

So, the first thing you have got to make clear is to go about picking a niche that is performing really well on TikTok.

If you go out there and start promoting B2B stuff on TikTok, you will only end up hitting your head with the hammer in your own hands.

Hence, you will have to pick a niche that is profitable on the platform. Some of the top niches that resonate with TikTok’s userbase are as follows:

All of the mentioned niches (and a lot more that have the growth potential or audience) are worth tens of billions of dollars already!

You should go down the rabbit hole further and discover some unique niches that aren’t very competitive but still have a big audience base with commercial intent.

2. Create A Profile & Optimize It

Once you have chosen a profitable niche, the next step you will have to take is to create a brand new TikTok account/profile and optimize it!

Okay, so, what do I mean by ‘optimizing’ the profile?

By optimizing the profile, I mean you should do the following this:

  • Select a trustwory and brandable name for your account
  • Include target keywords in your biography
  • Write a very catchy biography that makes people connect or interact with your account
  • Upload an eye-catching profile picture

One great example of what a good and ‘optimized’ TikTok profile looks like is shown below:

3. Analyze Other Successful Accounts

Once you have a good-looking profile that is capable of attracting or reaching the masses, you will have to go and snoop at other successful accounts to get an idea of what they are doing to gain more views and followers.

Um, what exactly do I mean by snooping? Here’s what I mean:

  • Go and see what kind of videos they are posting
  • How long are the videos that they are posting
  • What kind of editing is being done to the content pieces
  • How often are the videos being posted
  • How the accounts are interacting or engaging with their followers
  • What type of audience are the accounts creating content for
  • What kind of affiliate offers are the accounts promoting
  • etc.

Of course, the research phase is all about putting common sense in place. It all depends on how good your analytical skills are when it comes to social media and marketing.

Even if you go through the bits and pieces I just mentioned above, you will be good to go. But what I don’t want you to do is limit yourself to one kind of content pattern.

Always be open to testing and experimenting because that’s when you will open the doors to 10Xing your growth.

It’s totally fine…sometimes things will fall into place and sometimes they won’t! But, you shouldn’t move your feet away from the gas!

Here’s an example account to look at in the spirituality niche (that I took inspiration from):

4. Create/Prepare A Doable Content Strategy

After you have found out what kind of content is going to work on TikTok for your niche, you will want to create a content strategy that works for you.

A lot of times it happens that creators or marketers tend to overestimate what they will be able to accomplish in the next four weeks and what happens is that they are not even able to do half of it…

This intrigues a bad thinking process in people’s minds and they start thinking that TikTok isn’t the right platform for affiliate marketing…and never succeed!

You don’t have to make this mistake. Just be honest and realistic to yourself. Posting 10 videos on one day and then not even logging in for the next week isn’t a good marketing strategy at all!

Posting one video consistently for seven days is a better content distribution strategy instead.

No matter what application or social media site it is, if you do a good job at keeping more and more people on the platform, you will always do a great job at getting more people to see what you have got.

So, create a content plan that you will find convenient. From what I have seen, posting 1-3 videos per day is one of the best ways to grow a new account.

5. Find Relevant Affiliate Offers To Promote

Once you start getting a couple thousand views and people start engaging with your posts, you should think about monetizing your account.

Make sure that you don’t start monetizing your account from day one because people won’t respond well to that!

So, yeah, it’s time to find some great companies to partner with now. Some of the best places I would recommend you to find high-paying affiliate programs in different niches are:

One pro tip I have for you is that always try promoting digital products instead of physical products because not only you will receive high commissions but they’ll be easy to promote as well!

6. Create A Landing Pages(s)

The worst TikTok affiliate marketing strategy you could ever follow is to grab affiliate links and throw them away for people to click them and buy products.

Instead of this, you should create a landing page/bridge page and put your affiliate links there.

What this does is that it intrigues a person to check out the product and makes it a little hard for him to buy the product…this is a marketing strategy that always works and leads to more sales.

You can either use services like LinkTree and create simple bridge pages like the one shown below:

Or you can use free platforms like Systeme.io to create beautiful and appealing landing pages like the one I have just created:

Other than this, you could also try adding email signup forms to collect emails and then market to the subscribers over and over again to generate more sales and commissions.

7. Start Including CTAs In Your Videos

Now that you have an affiliate offer/product to promote, great landing pages, and a decent audience base, it’s time to start including CTAs in your videos/posts.

If you aren’t aware of CTAs, a CTA is Call To Action that guides people on what needs to be done after consuming a content piece.

A great example of a CTA would be – ‘Click the link in the bio to learn more’ or ‘follow the page for more.’

Here’s how people or affiliate marketers are using CTAs on TikTok:

That’s what you need to do and people will then start checking out your affiliate offers, and some will end up buying what you recommend.

8. Stay Consistent & Be Patient

Yes, this is the basic process if you want to promote affiliate links on TikTok organically. Just remember that things aren’t going to happen overnight.

It may happen to a person or two but for the vast majority, things will be a little slow and are going to take time.

Just stay consistent for a long time and gradually, you will start seeing that people are now following your account, engaging with the content, checking out affiliate products, and making purchases.

Affiliate Marketing On TikTok With TikTok Ads

Now that I have shared the organic method for doing affiliate marketing on this popular social media platform, let’s learn how to do the same with advertisements:

Using TikTok ads to promote your affiliate products isn’t as hard as people make it look. Here are the steps you will have to take to get started:

  1. Create A Landing Page If You Haven’t Already
  2. Create An Engaging Video Ad
  3. Create A TikTok Business Account
  4. Create A Campaign Campaign
  5. Publish It & Wait For The Results

1. Create A Landing Page If You Haven’t Already

TikTok won’t allow you to direct link the products you want to promote. You will require a landing page for your ad campaigns to run and for your account to not get banned.

As I have already said, you can use free platforms like Systeme.io and GetResponse’s Autofunnel to create landing pages.

Also, make your landing page as genuine and natural as possible. No false claims or lies will be accepted by the platform.

2. Get An Engaging Video Ad Ready

The next thing you will have to do is to get an amazing video advertisement ready. If you can, create an ad that will catch people’s attention and intrigue them to check out your landing page.

If you don’t have any experience creating advertisements, you can hire someone on Fiverr for a couple of dollars and have them create an ad for you.

3. Create A TikTok Business Account

Before you can run advertisements on TikTok, you will want to create a TikTok Business account. To be able to do this, you will have to visit TikTok For Business and then register from there.

The registration process isn’t that hard. You will be asked some important details about you as an individual or about your business and that’s it!

4. Create An Ad Campaign

After creating a business account, you will be taken to TikTok’s ad dashboard. Please be aware that the dashboard may look a little different in different countries!

In the TikTok Ad Manager, you will click on the ‘create ad’ button and a new page will appear in front of you that will look somewhat like this:

tiktok ads for affiliate marketing

You will have to select ‘custom’ from the given options and after clicking the same, you will be taken to the campaign setup process.

From the given objectives, you will have to pick ‘traffic.’

Once you have selected the objective, you will have to choose the locations where your ad will show up, the age groups to target, gender, and languages as shown below.

You will also have the functionality to choose audience interests for better targeting:

After that is done, you can upload your video, add the URL to your landing pages, add what is required, and you’ll be good to go.

5. Publish It & Be Patient

Don’t log in every single minute to see how your ads are performing after your ad is live. At the end of the day, all you are dealing with is a machine. Give the platform and its technology some time to optimize your ad and deliver the results you expected.

From my own experience, it can take up to two weeks before you start seeing some impressive results. Also, you might have to test and tweak a few things before the commissions/sales start coming in.

Tips To Make More Money With TikTok Affiliate Marketing

I have been working in this industry for quite some time now and from my own failures, I have learned a lot of things. I don’t want you to make the same mistakes over and over again, so, here are some tips for you:

1. Avoid Creating Multiple Accounts

No matter how great you are going, you will always feel like the other niche people are working in are more profitable and that you should also start an LOA account, Weight Loss account, or something along the lines.

Until you get to the stage where you have gained enough followers, you should only try to focus on one account. Don’t get distracted by other players in the industry.

2. Don’t Just Repost Stuff

I know this…these YouTubers will tell you that all it takes to become a successful affiliate is 2 minutes of work, but that’s very far from the reality.

You won’t really build a loyal fanbase by posting something that has already been created by someone else. Yes, you can take inspiration from the top-performing content pieces but reposting them and hoping for views isn’t a good idea at all.

Pros & Cons Of TikTok Affiliate Marketing

ProsCons
There aren’t many affiliates on TikTok yet, it’s not as competitive. It’s quite hard to sell as people are using the platform mainly for entertainment purposes.
Certain niches like relationships, fashion, and food are performing tremendously well.TikTok has made it really hard for people to go away from the platform.
The user base will only increase.Ad rates are very expensive compared to other platforms (but can be worth it for certain niches).
A lot of organic reach that can help you get more customers. Not enough targeting functionality for older audiences.
Easy to create content and hook people. The future isn’t that safe.

Is Affiliate Marketing On TikTok Worth It

Well, the answer to this question is going to be it depends! This is because:

  • A – the future of the platform isn’t safe
  • B – it will depend on how much effort one will put in
  • C – not all niches will do well

So, there isn’t a definite answer that you could digest. Although I strongly believe that you should utilizeTikTok at least once and see what it gets you.

In Conclusion

This was my guide about affiliate marketing with TikTok. Though there are a lot of uncertainties that jump in, until the platform is there, it can be a winning situation for a lot of marketers.
