Are Niche Sites Worth It? (8 Common Questions Answered)

Building niche websites for passive income, the business model is attracting tons of people as more and more people are seeking ‘freedom’ in terms of work-life and finances.

I just did a quick check inside of Google Trends to see how many people are interested in niche websites, and the data speaks for itself;

Pretty impressive, right? But what’s not impressive is that a lot of the beginner questions remain unanswered by the big guys.

Well, to change that completely, I’m going to address some of the most common yet important questions about niche websites that every beginner blogger asks.

Let’s not waste any time further and get right into the article to clear all of your doubts and help you understand more about niche sites.

Are Niche Sites Still Profitable?

The answer to this question can straightaway be – it depends, but I’m going to provide you with more insights. But first, there’s a positive answer for you, and we’ll move on to negative things later on.

Niches websites are still profitable and are going to be in the future too. The reason being is that there is no limit to the topics with low or mediocre competition bloggers can build niche sites around and generate a sustainable ROI.

Now that you are feeling a bit better, let’s address the negative part;

There used to be a time when you could just throw 10 or 20 mediocre articles/blog posts on a niche site and wait for them to rank to attract tens of thousands of clicks, if not hundreds of thousands.

That doesn’t work now. Nowadays, there’s competition in every sector. Hence, bloggers will have to improve the way they perform topic research, how they write content and other technical things like SEO.

Although you can compete and outrank the big players in your industry, but it’s not worth it as a lot of time and energy get wasted.

Therefore, whether or not your niche site is going to be profitable or not will solely depend on how well you did the research and how well you answered people’s questions in your blog posts.

And yes, you can still get thousands of clicks with just a few articles sitting, but that’s going to require a proven search analysis method.

Also, you won’t be able to do the analysis right if you don’t find yourself immersed in the niche you chose, so keep that in mind as well.

How Do Niche Websites Make Money?

There are a lot of ways niche websites generate revenue or make money. If I talk about my niche websites, both of them make money via Ezoic display ads and Amazon Associates.

This doesn’t mean all of the websites are monetized with the same methods. Every website owner has the right to use whatever monetization method they want to. Still, I’ll answer the question properly;

Most niche websites make money via display advertising, affiliate marketing, lead generation, sponsored posts, selling info products, dropshipping, and providing services related to the industry.

But affiliate marketing and display ads are quite common that you will get to see with the vast majority of the sites.

Where Can You Buy A Niche Website?

There are a lot of platforms that can be used to buy niche websites. You can browse websites for sale anywhere and everywhere, including Facebook groups, Twitter, brokers like Flippa or Empire Flippers, or any other platform.

Though, the most recommend marketplaces to purchase niche websites are as follows;

  1. Flippa
  2. Empire Flippers
  3. Shopify Exchange
  4. GoDaddy
  5. Sedo

You can use the same marketplaces to sell the websites as well.

How Much Do Niche Websites Make?

Once again, there are a lot of factors that affect the revenue of a website. We, for sure, can take a rough idea, though.

The figures can vary from one website to another depending on the niche, topic selection, content quality, conversion rate optimization, and quality of monetization.

Just to give you an example, one of my sites about mountain biking earned $50 a month with 10,000 pageviews because it was monetized with Google Adsense.

But the story changed completely when I switched from Adsense to Ezoic. Now the same website earns $432 on 18,000 pageviews! Hence, the amount of money you earn depends on how well the site is monetized.
